INTRODUCTION
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Welcome to EDITOOII, the all purpose editor utility for
Operation Overkill. This editor has been modified for use
with OOII Version .995ß. Please note that this editor will
NOT work with any other version of Operation Overkill.
This editor also contains the following with the following
restrictions for use. Sorry for the restrictions but I was
under the impression that if I just asked that IF YOU liked
the program to let me know you were using it and to send me
$10 for its use. Since there were so many kind people that wanted
to register it, I felt that those who have contributed a small
bit..should get a little more ie. BASE EDITOR, THUMPER EDITOR
and CYCLONE EDITOR!!
That is my thanks to you guys for being so kind as to register
it... but on with the features.

If you have registered the Editor, then two other options will become
available to you as well. [B]ase Editor and [N]ukem Editor, both
of which will work whether or not you have Registered OOII.

MONSTER EDITOR

The monster editor should allow you to modify monsters for just
about everything.

Above you will see the main screen for the Monster Editor, each option
is surrounded by brackets and is highlighted in white to make it more
visable.
[L]oad Another Monster
This will prompt you to enter the monsters record number to load
them for editing with Enter Monster Number :
Enter a valid number and then you can use the other options. Note
that the options in white on the right will not be available to
you until you load a monster for editing.
While a monster is not loaded, all monster information will apprear
in xxxxx and only [L]oad [G]et and [I]nsert will be available.
After a monster is loaded other Monster Editor Options will be
available and will be discussed later.
[G]et Roster
This will prompt you to tell the editor what Map Levels monsters
you wish to view. Enter 1 through 5 for valid options.
If you enter 1 you may get something like this in the right window.

At this point it will either say [ENTER] to continue
or give you the option for [N]o more in case you see monster
you want to edit.
The Roster is set up with :
[MONSTER NUMBER] {Experience Points} Name
and is pretty straight forward.
[I]nsert Monster
This option will allow you to add monster to the monster
file. You will be prompted as to what level you wish to insert
the monster or Zero to Quit.
There is only a maximum of 50 monsters per level which is
more than any person will ever need in the game. To write it to
disk, you MUST enter a name with length greater than 3 and
make conform to the level restrictions in the [W]rite Monster
section.

This screen has Monster 14 loaded - which is a Bandit.
To modify a monster, just enter the highlighted option and make the
change. Its pretty straight forward. If the option is not highlighted,
then you can not change it. Experience and Found are two of the options
you can not change. Experience is calculated by the editor and will
change as you change the monster. Found refers to what level it is
found on. In the upper right corner, you will notice the monsters
record number as well.
[B]rave = Monsters Bravery 100 = never runs away 1 = coward
[T]ype = Humanoid or Beast
ONLY Humanoids use weapons and talk..Beasts only claw
attack.
[S]tr = Monster Strength
[D]ex = Monster Dexterity
[C]rystals = Average Number of Crystals the Monster may be carrying
[R]ads = Radiation % of the monster..Higher the worse
[V]irus = What Virus/Disease the Monster Carries or if Poison is
used by them
[H]its = Average Hit points the monster will have
[1]Weapon1 = Hand to Hand Weapon
[2]Weapon2 = Long Range Weapon
[A]rmor = Armor worn by them
[E]quipment = This will allow you to edit the equipment
carried by the monster.
Options for [R]emove, [A]dd and [S]how Equipment
will be available to use.
The option [G]et will change from the Description to the Talk
field and vice versa. To change any line in the lower window, just
enter the number of the line (3..6). In case of the talk field, lines
3 and 5 are what the users will see if they have a Translator.
Lines 4 and 6 are what they will see if they do not have a translator.
OOII will pick which set to use randomly.
For Example, below is the talk field of the Dredvault:

Lines 3 and 5 are what the Dredvault is actually saying but if the
player does not have a Translator then instead of :
I will crush your bones to make my bread!

There are also some special characters for Lines 3 and 5.
!! = Location of the Hydrite Prison
## = Location of the Spaceship (Gosh, wally whats that??)
&& = Location of the Oracle
If any of those are found in the talk field, then it will be replaced
with a slip of the tongue like :
"You will never get to the Hydrite prison at [34,12]!!"

After loading a monster Try using : + or - (thats plus or minus keys)

[K]ill This Monster
This option will allow you to delete this monster from the monster
file. The only restriction is that there MUST be at least FIVE
monsters on each level..you can not delete below that many.
When a monster is deleted, the space opened will be filled by
the monster at the top of that level. Thus if the monsters
are numbered 11 to 25 and you delete # 15 then #15 will be
replaced by #25 and monsters will range from 11 to 24.
[W]rite This Monster
This option will write the monster to disk as long as certain
restrictions are maintained. Each level has a minimum and maximum
statistics total and experience value that each monster must
meet.

Level 5 Monsters are supposed to be scourge of the planet
and may even be unbeatable..There are always something that
players should fear and run from...without them players will
just keep attacking until it or they are dead..typical hack
and slash players strategy.
If all these restrictions are made AND IF the name is longer
than FOUR characters long then it will be saved and the
window will be cleared.
TERRAIN(MAP) EDITOR

THE MAP FUNCTIONS:
[L]OAD a new map...EDITOOII can load from just about any drive and
any path and will even use wildcards * and ? for
file names. If you use a wildcard, EDITOOII will
"Filter" out everything except extensions of MP?
from the listings. You can then just press RETURN
to make your selection or ESC to exit the load
option.
[S]AVE the current map...EDITOOII can save to just about any
drive and any path. If you press return, it will just
OVERWRITE the old existing file. EDITOOII MAKES
NO CHECKS for Currently existing files..so be
sure you wanted to overwrite before you do it.
[E]DIT this Map...In edit you can use the keypad to move around the
map. Press NUMLOCK to move slowly over the map or
you can turn the NUMLOCK off and instantly JUMP to
positions on the map. The numbers are :

no FIVE is available on the keypad with
out the NUMLOCK on. If you want to exit
edit, you can press Q to quit or if you
want to return the map to what it was before editing
just press ESC.

Options A to P are available, however unless the map is level
one COMPLEX (P) is not available and unless the map is level 3
the PRISON(M) is not available.
[N]EW map file...In case you want a new map file, EDITOOII can
create a new map with border as ROCK and filled
in with wasteland.

Quick display allows you to move the map quadrant quickly
to another area of the map. This option is NOT available
during editing.
RESTRICTIONS:
There are a few restrictions that MUST be followed:
1) ONLY One complex is allowed on the map and ONLY ON LEVEL ONE
2) ONLY One Prison is allowed on the map and ONLY ON LEVEL THREE
3) If a hole goes down it should also have a hole up on
the other map!
4) The Position directly above the complex must be open
so that the users can get out of the complex.
5) IF the base is in row two be sure that the players
can get out..ie
OO ^^ OO OO OO OO ...
OO [] ww ww ww ww ...
OO ww ww ww ww ww ...
The players will be trapped on the Mountain Spot here!
Lastly, EDITOOII tries to check for 1,2 and 4.
IF there are more than one complex or prison, only the
first one found on the map will be kept and the rest will
be converted to Radiation Mounds. I could check for #5
but nah! didn't feel like it..cuz there was alot of problems
that came with that..like which one to convert and convert
it to what? What if I converted the left one above..then
I have to convert the one below it..ect..so I said nah!
There is NO way to check for option 3! SO watch it yourself.
What do you expect from a cheezy program like this!

Most of the options are straight forward..but just don't be
making super players..what fun is that..Overkill is a game
of competition by using an editor like this ..it kinda takes the
fun out of it - Don't do it!
If you decide to change the [W]here option.. You should BE SURE
of the change. It is possible to put a player inside solid rock!
If the player is INSIDE a prison or base, they are stuck there!
The reason for this is the prison system is too complex to mess with
and placing a player in a base that is not there is not a good
thing to do..

For the roster, it shows the bases record number, its name and
the owner of the base.
[A]dd Base...If there is room(less than 20)in the Bases it will load
a blank record and you can edit it. In Order to save the
base added the X,Y and Map values must be set and the
name of the base must be longer than THREE Characters.
[D]elete Base...If you wish to delete the base you have loaded, you can
use this option for it. A base MUST be loaded in order for
this option to be active.
[W]rite Base...This option will save the base to disk if the X, Y
and Map values are set and the name is longer than THREE
characters long.

Options 1,2 and 3 will allow you to change Nukems location. HOWEVER,
please realize that Nukem has a mind of his own and if you change
these he most probably will move around in the game by himself
anyhow!!
[E]dit Thumper.. will allow you to change a thumpers X,Y and Map levels.
[A]dd Thumper.. will allow you to add a thumper to the maps.
[D]elete Thumper will allow you to delete a thumper from the maps.
A thumper can be placed anywhere there is not a base or another
thumper. The editor can NOT check for COMPLEX or the PRISON so be
sure to NOT place a thumper on those locations!!!
The Number of the thumper is placed in () for Editing and Deleting.
CYCLONE EDITOR

New with version .995, we have started to add weather types
to OOII. One of these weather types is the Cyclones. The game
has two cyclones that constantly move about. One moves around
from level 1 and 2, and the other travels around levels 4 and 5.

[S]ave - Save the current locations of the Cyclones
[1]..[6] to alter the locations of the cyclones.

REGISTERING THE EDITOR:

As I mentioned before, if you like this package please
register it. This will show you like my work on the editor
and the numerous things I have done for OOII. Please keep in
mind that any registration for OOII ($25 to Dustin) does NOT
end up in my pocket...the only compensation for BBS calls,
writing code, distribution of the package, ect all comes from
my own pocket.
I have made it so that IF you registered OOII (to dustin)
or IF you register the editor you get more features. This is so
those people that have contributed to the either get some features.
If you registered the editor in the past, just feel free to contact
me for your registration number for the editor. Registering IS NOT
MANDADORY..but for those who DO register they get a some additional
features.
R E G I S T I N G Y O U R E D I T O R :

To Register your copy of the editor, just type [R] from the main menu
and follow it from there.. Enter your name and number EXACTLY as they
should be. It will store this information in the MONSTER.DAT file
and other Data files. If you decide to change some data files(not those
with OO extensions) then use the [S] command to show your registration
number and WRITE IT DOWN BEFORE changing *.DAT files.
NOTE: If the name in OOCONFIG.DAT and the Editors Registered name
DO NOT MATCH, then the editor will reset thinking it has been
illegally registered. The editor is NOT case sensative in the
names.
Again: [R]egister The Editor
[S]how the Editor Password
will not be in the listing...but they do work.

As you can tell I don't like to write documentation,
mainly because I think the program does NOT really need
it. I am sure there will be some bugs here and there, so
if there is or if there is something that needs to be
added to EDITOOII feel free to call any of my BBS

at 8:970/201 8:970/200 and various other places.
Dustin and I get mail in the OOII ECHO and DOORWARE ECHO
as well. We generally check both on a regular basis. If you
don't know where to find the OOII ECHO feel free to call

for you to grab if you need it since its the official
distribution site of the program.

NOTE TO OLD USERS: Most accounts on my IL system have been
deleted since I have moved to Bellevue WA now and the
automated system there is being overseen by Charles Strusz.
